The city of Wiesbaden is planning to build a new tram line as part of the "CityBahn Wiesbaden" project (Mainz - Wiesbaden - Taunusstein - Bad Schwalbach). Due to the associated widening of the ramp road, which is due to the construction of a stop in this area, the construction of a new retaining wall became necessary.
The new construction of the "Am KranSand" retaining wall is part of the overall "CityBahn Wiesbaden" measure to extend the traffic areas and was realised as a preliminary measure. The construction work was carried out to the north-west (downstream) of the abutment of the Theodor Heuss Bridge in Mainz-Kastel, Wiesbaden. The retaining wall serves to secure the road embankment of the state road L 3482 (Rampenstraße).
In order to construct the bus stop in the Rampenstraße area, the road must be widened. However, the existing embankment cannot withstand the widening of the road cross-section in its current form. For this reason, the retaining wall was realised.
There is an existing staircase in the eastern section of the retaining wall. The new retaining wall was erected far enough away so that the staircase is not affected. The existing slope was slightly modelled here in the area of the stairs and partially behind the existing building.
Due to the contaminated soil, the work was carried out in a black and white area to protect the workers.
