The overfly
Overfly or fly-overs are infrastructure constructions that "fly over" other traffic routes - which is also the English meaning of "to fly over". They are built to improve traffic flow and guide the main flow of traffic safely in the appropriate direction.
The project
The bridge structures at the intersection of the A 5 and A 67 motorways at the Darmstädter Kreuz junction have load-bearing deficits and therefore need to be replaced.
As part of the overall project, the north ramp and the central structure will be demolished. The southern ramp will be built parallel to the existing structure. The demolition of the south ramp will take place later and is not part of the contract. The replacement construction of the central structure and the northern overfly will be carried out in the existing structure. The route of the southern flyover will be swivelled to the south.
This will create new positions and heights, which is why the connecting ramps of the central structure and the northern flyover will have to be adapted accordingly on both sides of the new construction in order to compensate for the differences. The new building and the ramp of the southern overfly will be constructed at a later date and were not part of the tender.
