The Germersheim district administration is planning to remodel and expand the recycling centre on the site of the former Westheim landfill. Both a biowaste fermentation plant and the recycling centre are located on the site of the recycling centre. The extension to include a fallow area to the east will expand the recycling centre and separate it from the organic waste fermentation plant. This work will be carried out by our civil engineering and road construction department.
The following acceptance areas will be created on the new area of the recycling centre:
- Set-up area for collection containers
- Storage area
- Collection container for electronic waste
- Small delivery ramp
- Storage area for green waste
In addition, the installation of a second weighbridge and the expansion of an additional lane will improve traffic flow in the entrance and exit area. The entrance and exit area and the small delivery ramp will be covered with a steel structure.
The surface water from the roof, parking and driving areas is channelled via a gutter system for pre-treatment into a lamella clarifier, which separates the coarse material. The purified surface water is then channelled into a newly constructed basin for infiltration.
The retaining walls of the small delivery ramp and the retaining walls of the storage box for green waste are made of in-situ concrete. The area for the collection containers will have a concrete carriageway and the remaining road surfaces will be asphalted.
The contract value is around €4.4 million net. Construction work began in August 2024 and is expected to be completed in June 2025.
