The expansion of renewable energy generation and the planned decommissioning of nuclear power stations from 2020 onwards mean that new extra-high-voltage power lines are required to run from the north of the country to the south.
In the section from Heide/West to Husum/Nord, 113 new overhead line pylons are to be erected as part of a new 380 kV overhead line to ‘collect’ the wind energy generated. The foundations for these will, for the most part, consist of in-situ concrete bored piles with diameters between 1 m and 1.5 m and embedment depths of up to 30 m. Depending on the type of pylon, up to 12 piles of the aforementioned dimensions may be required. Alternatively, individual locations are being constructed using driven pipe foundations with dimensions ranging from DU 813×15 to 916×20 mm. The pile lengths here are up to 28 metres, and installation must be carried out by driving.
The pile foundations are being carried out by Eiffage Infra-Spezialtiefbau GmbH, whilst the head foundations are being constructed by staff from the civil engineering departments of Wittfeld GmbH and Heinrich Walter Bau GmbH. A particular challenge is transporting the heavy machinery to the individual mast sites in this predominantly rural area.
This includes the following services:
- Construction of deep foundations using in-situ concrete bored piles with diameters of 1 m and 1.5 m, to a depth of up to 30 metres
- Construction of the head connections for the in-situ concrete bored piles
- Installation of driven pipe foundations using the percussive method
- Transport operations between mast sites
