Good news from Normandy: An exciting infrastructure project is making great strides in Le Havre – and our team at Eiffage Infra Specialised Civil Engineering is right at the heart of it!
A particular highlight
Our tunnel boring machine, christened ‘Aline’, has already been successfully deployed in the launch shaft at the port and has completed its journey underground.
Current project status
Production of the required pipes has been fully completed. The actual tunnelling work began in May. Just two days later, a tool inspection under compressed air was successfully carried out – an important milestone for the safety and quality of the construction work.
Technical highlight
A mock-up has already been erected directly on site for the subsequent interior fit-out. This is a demonstration model showing how two GRP pipes, each with a diameter of 1,200 mm, will later be laid one above the other in the tunnel. A total of around 460 metres of tunnel has been excavated. In the south shaft, there is currently a delay in the recovery work – a challenge, but our team continues to work with dedication and focus. The separation plant and the pressing equipment in the launch shaft have now been largely dismantled. Work is also progressing rapidly in the south shaft – there are now only 3 metres left to reach full depth.
We are proud of the entire on-site team, who are driving this pioneering project forward with great care, technical expertise and a high level of commitment. With ‘Aline’ at the helm, we are continuing towards our goal – metre by metre.
Update
The tunnelling work has been completed, the tunnel has been cleared and all remaining work has been finished. The tunnel has been handed over to the lining contractors. Furthermore, on 23 September 2025, the machine was retrieved from the target shaft and taken to Herrenknecht for overhaul in preparation for its next deployment.
