We recently reported on the first bridge sliding operation on the B173 near Hochstadt am Main. Now it was time for the second of a total of 12 sliding operations – carried out by our consortium partner and sister company, SEH.

Our project team laid the groundwork: constructing the piers and abutments, building the site access roads and temporary basements, and much more.

The final slide of the first assembly section is scheduled for the end of November – partly during a track closure by Deutsche Bahn. Only the final metres of the sliding section will take place during this track closure, as the steel components will deflect by approximately 3.5 metres during this approximately 90-metre-long slide, thereby protruding into the railway line’s clearance gauge.

Following these three shunts, the first of four assembly sections, comprising 220 metres of steel box girder, will be in place and the conversion of the synchronised pushing mechanism can begin.

At the same time, the next steel components will be delivered to the opposite side, from where they will be pushed in the opposite direction using the same method over a distance of approximately 240 metres.

Once the pushing operations are complete, the gap will be welded shut directly over the Main, the superstructure aligned and the formwork dismantled.
From summer 2025, our project team will be called upon once again to construct the deck and the remainder of the bridge.

We wish the entire project team continued success and look forward to reaching many milestones together.
Perhaps we’ll soon see some romantic bridge scenes in the snow? In beautiful Upper Franconia, that’s not out of the question at the end of November…
