What does an electronics technician specialising in energy and building services do?
As an electronics technician specialising in energy and building services, you ensure that electrical systems in buildings operate safely and reliably. During your apprenticeship, you will learn to install electrical components in various sectors, for example in the power supply systems of residential and commercial buildings or in industrial facilities. You will commission these systems, test their functions and carry out regular maintenance to ensure that lighting, power supply and control systems run smoothly.
In this role, you’ll take on a wide range of technical and practical tasks relating to electrical installations. These include, amongst other things:
- installing electrical systems in residential, commercial and industrial buildings
- laying cables, fitting equipment and making connections
- reading and implementing circuit diagrams and technical documentation
- Testing and measuring systems, systematically troubleshooting and rectifying faults
- commissioning electrical systems and making adjustments
- Carry out maintenance and repair work, and monitor systems
- Advising customers on the safe use of systems
- Comply with safety and VDE regulations; document work
Electronics technicians specialising in energy and building services engineering mainly work:
- in electrical installation firms
- at building services and maintenance companies, and energy suppliers
- on construction sites for new-builds, refurbishments and modernisation projects
- in residential, office, commercial and industrial buildings
- at least a secondary school leaving certificate
- an interest in technical matters and the ability to concentrate
- A passion for precise, meticulous work
- Ability to work as part of a team and a willingness to communicate
- Good comprehension skills and a sense of responsibility
