What does an electrical engineer specialising in industrial engineering do?
As an electronics technician specialising in industrial engineering, you ensure that electrical systems in industrial settings operate safely and reliably. During your apprenticeship, you will learn how to install, programme and commission electrical components and systems. You will regularly inspect and maintain the systems and pinpoint faults in order to rectify malfunctions quickly.
In this role, you will carry out a wide range of technical tasks on plant and machinery. These include, amongst other things:
- installing, wiring and connecting electrical components and systems
- programming and configuring control, measurement, regulation and monitoring systems
- reading and implementing circuit diagrams and technical documentation
- Testing and measuring systems, systematically troubleshooting and rectifying faults
- commissioning electrical systems and testing their functions
- Carry out maintenance, repair and modernisation work
- Implement and monitor safety and protective measures
- Collaborate with other specialist departments and train users in the operation of systems
Electronics technicians specialising in industrial engineering mainly work:
- in industrial and manufacturing plants
- at energy suppliers and companies specialising in automation, plant engineering and process engineering
- in workshops, production halls, and at machinery and plant facilities
- in the maintenance, servicing and modernisation of plant
- at least a secondary school leaving certificate
- an interest in technology and an understanding of electrical systems
- a precise and conscientious approach to work
- Ability to work as part of a team and a willingness to communicate
- Good comprehension and a sense of responsibility
