What does an agricultural and construction machinery mechatronics technician do?

As an agricultural and construction machinery mechatronics technician, you ensure that large machines run reliably. During your apprenticeship, you will learn how to maintain, inspect and repair agricultural equipment and construction machinery. You’ll work on mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic systems, getting everything from simple small tools to high-tech machines with GPS control up and running safely again.

Information on training

In this role, you’ll carry out a wide range of practical and technical tasks on vehicles and machinery. These include, amongst other things:

  • Maintaining, servicing and repairing agricultural and construction machinery
  • Identifying, analysing and systematically narrowing down faults
  • Checking and replacing mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic components
  • Adjusting engines, gearboxes, chassis and working equipment
  • Using diagnostic equipment and electronic measuring instruments
  • Preparing machinery for use and testing its functions
  • Advise customers on the operation, maintenance and safe use of the machinery

Agricultural and construction machinery mechatronics technicians mainly work:

  • in workshops at agricultural and construction machinery companies
  • at manufacturers, dealers and service providers for machinery
  • on building sites or in fields, carrying out field work and on-site repairs
  • in companies within the construction, agricultural and local authority sectors

You will work directly on large machines, partly in the workshop and partly outdoors at the customer’s site, ensuring that high-performance equipment is ready for use at all times.

  • at least a secondary school leaving certificate or a vocational baccalaureate
  • manual dexterity and an interest in technology
  • An enthusiasm for agricultural and construction machinery, as well as modern technology
  • a precise and responsible approach to work
  • a practical aptitude and the ability to work as part of a team
