The consortia ARGE RWTL Lot 5 and ARGE RWTL Lots 6+7a, comprising the companies Reinhard Rohrbau GmbH, A. Hak International B.V. and Eiffage Infra-Nordwest GmbH, have been commissioned by RWE Power AG to carry out the specified construction phases of the Rhine water transport pipeline. A section of pipe from the future transport pipeline was presented at the contract signing. The steel pipes installed, with a diameter of 2,200 millimetres, illustrate the scale of the infrastructure project, which will in future transport large quantities of Rhine water to the Rhineland mining area.

In future, the pipeline system – approximately 45 kilometres long – is intended to carry water from the Rhine to the Hambach and Garzweiler opencast mines. It will be used to fill the future residual lakes and to stabilise the regional water balance in the long term.

Lot 5 covers approximately 3.2 kilometres between Dormagen-Gohr and Rommerskirchen-Widdeshoven. Lots 6 and 7a connect directly to this and extend for a further four kilometres or so to Grevenbroich-Allrath. In both sections, three parallel DN 2200 steel pipelines will be laid. In addition, there will be complex crossing structures involving closed-pipe tunnelling.

In total, the consortia will carry out more than 21 kilometres of pipeline construction work across three parallel pipeline runs.

The two construction projects will be carried out over a construction period of around 17 months. We are looking forward to this exciting project and to working together.
