A sense of achievement is at its best when shared. So , for once, we’re not reporting today on impressive construction progress, bridge-building pioneers or fantasy football champions, but are instead delving into the underworld – the world of tunnel builders. Our major project, the Kauerndorf Tunnel, is in the starting blocks👏. Over the past few weeks, we’ve been working intensively on work planning, contract negotiations and coordination with our consortium partner, Feldhaus Bergbau GmbH & Co. KG. But now we can finally get things properly underway💪.
Working where others go on holiday isn’t just a thing in the popular Lake Constance region or the tranquil Odenwald, but also in beautiful Upper Franconia near Kulmbach, the secret capital of beer🍻.
An overview of the major project:
- Construction of the Kauerndorf Tunnel and supporting structures as part of the Kauerndorf bypass, B 289 Kulmbach – Münchberg
- Construction period: 09/2026 – 04/2030
- Project value: 63 million euros (execution: 50/50 with our consortium partner)
- Western tunnel portal: three retaining structures, an emergency response facility and an operations building with a fire-fighting water system
- East tunnel exit portal: four retaining structures and an emergency facility
- Tunnel length: 750 m, of which 626 m is excavated
- two rescue tunnels (240 m / 50 m)
- Road and path construction in the approach cuts
- Underground pipework and cabling in the portal areas and on the roads
Here are a few aerial views, captured by our dedicated site foreman in civil engineering and road construction – who is also a passionate drone photographer📸. After all , anticipation is half the fun: We’re already eagerly looking forward to the next four years, packed with shared milestones, tunnel-breaking and breakthrough ceremonies, Barbara festivals and other exciting traditions from the world of tunnelling⚒️. Here’s to an accident-free construction period and ‘Glück Auf’🍀!
