Odenwald speed unchecked

Well before the official ground-breaking ceremony on 23/04/2016, we are already making great progress on our Zell viaduct in Bad König👏 Heavy equipment is being driven into the tranquil Odenwald forest, as the special civil engineering work began there today.

The drilling tools are boring almost 11 metres deep into the ground (e.g. with so-called augers🐌). At the same time, the existing foundations are being demolished.

Next milestones:

• Closure breaks in July and October 2026 (both during the Hessian holidays) for the construction of the south abutment and construction of the supporting structure above the railway line for the formwork of the superstructure
• November 2026: Concreting of the superstructure👍
• Winter 2026/2027 (weather permitting): Construction of the caps and sealing, road construction work, dismantling of the construction road and temporary bridge
• June 2027: planned opening to traffic🚗🚙🚚

Key data of the new construction at a glance:

• Functional tender (planning and execution)
• Construction of the new bridge replacement in the same location
• Length of the viaduct: 120 metres
• Prestressed concrete superstructure with construction on falsework
• Adaptation of the B45 (full extension) to the new structure, including the Helmertweg junction, including road surface renewal up to the B45 / Jakob-Maul-Straße junction
• Resurfacing of the existing cycle path
• Dismantling of the temporary bridge and construction road during construction
