In the "Digital Maintenance of the Nibelungen Bridge Worms" project, our Structural Maintenance department is realising state-of-the-art engineering methods to extend the remaining useful life of the bridge from the current 10 years to at least 30 years. We are developing, initialising and operating the digital twin (BIM model), which is making a significant contribution to the implementation of the service life extension.
Relevant use cases have been defined in collaboration with Landesbetrieb Mobilität Worms (LBM), including the continuous condition monitoring of the sliding carriageway slabs on the foreland bridges in Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate. For this purpose, suitable metrological measures are taken to monitor/document all relevant condition indicators of the bridge structure.
The monitoring system, which records changes in length and component temperature, among other things, continuously documents all important structural and climatic data over a period of five years. Our services include the planning, delivery, installation, operation, maintenance and repair of the measuring system, as well as the recording, transmission, storage and evaluation of all measurement data.
The contract value is around €1.7 million net. Construction work began in July 2025 and is expected to be completed in December 2025.
