The Mona Mare all-weather swimming pool in Monheim am Rhein is currently undergoing extensive refurbishment and a significant expansion. The building services team at Eiffage Infra-Hochbau is responsible for the plumbing and heating systems on this major project.
The town of Monheim am Rhein is investing in the future of its leisure facilities – this project, costing around 46 million euros, aims to create significant added value for residents. This charming little town lies between Düsseldorf and Cologne, and the refurbished Mona Mare – with its saltwater and wave pools, numerous slides and a waterfall – is set to become a popular attraction for young and old alike.
This leisure facility will be open all year round and therefore naturally places special demands on energy efficiency and sustainability. The building services team at Eiffage Infra-Hochbau has taken on this task, which has a total contract value of 1.8 million euros. The aim was to use bespoke technical solutions not only to take all environmental aspects into account but also to make a significant contribution to the future feel-good atmosphere of the new leisure centre through high-quality fittings.
Sophisticated technology of the highest standard
For the heating supply, the existing system was modernised and brought up to the latest technical standards. Among other things, a total of 1,400 metres of heating pipework was laid. Heat is now distributed to radiators and underfloor heating via a heating circuit manifold with 12 heating circuits, which heats a substantial 30 cubic metres per hour. The total volume of heating water in the system is just under 150 cubic metres.
To ensure that all future guests feel comfortable, no expense was spared on the sanitary facilities either. Forty shower fittings with an automated drinking water hygiene system and 24 washbasin units were installed. In addition, 142 metres of box gutters, 12 toilet blocks, five urinal blocks and three accessible toilets were installed. Drinking water is now supplied via just under 2,200 metres of new stainless-steel pipework, whilst waste water is drained away via over 1,200 metres of drainage pipes. A high-pressure drainage system with galvanised steel pipes was installed for rainwater drainage.
Leisure fun from October 2025
The sports area is scheduled to reopen at the end of October 2025. The leisure swimming area is set to follow at the end of the year and will then offer guests a comprehensively modernised swimming experience for sport, relaxation and family fun.
