In Düren, the group sewage treatment plant is being extended and refurbished.
Following the excavation of the foundation pits using the CSM method in the first construction lot, Eiffage Infra-Nordwest’s civil engineering division has now been commissioned to carry out further construction lots for the refurbishment of the treatment works whilst it remains in operation.
Built in 1974, the treatment works was designed to serve 310,000 residents. Due to the increase in influent loads – partly caused by rising production levels at industrial companies – the plant is currently operating at full capacity. The refurbishment is necessary to ensure that operations continue to run smoothly and to reduce odour emissions.
The following structures in the first treatment stage will be rebuilt:
- Inlet structure
- Two-stage screen system
- 2-channel aerated grit and grease trap
- Two-channel primary clarifier
- High-load biological treatment with intermediate clarification and partial-flow treatment
- Blower stations and primary thickeners
- Plant building
- Intermediate pumping station
- Outfall structure
Completion is scheduled for the end of 2028.
