As part of the resurfacing work on the A650 between the Ludwigshafen junction and the Maxdorf slip road, the BW 528, BW 530 and BW 531 bridges were also refurbished in both directions. The refurbishment involved the complete repair of the bridge decks, waterproofing and the resurfacing of the asphalt layers. In addition, the transition structure on BW 530 was replaced and a collision barrier was installed in the vicinity of the railway line. In the direction of Bad Dürkheim, the noise barrier was replaced on two structures.
Concrete repair work was carried out on the soffits of all structures.
Among the special features of this project were, on the one hand, the large-scale chloride remediation using the ‘Pilgerschritt’ method, and, on the other, the conversion of a car park for passengers, which was situated within a lizard habitat. To protect the reptiles, the entire section of track, approximately 3 kilometres long, had to be fitted with a lizard protection fence.
This involved the following services:
- Coordination with the Rhein-Haardtbahn
- 1,000 m² of waterproofing and asphalt on the structures
- Demolition of monolithically constructed caps: 93.20 m
- 85 m of noise barrier
- 12 m of impact protection
- 133 m³ of concrete used
