What does an industrial clerk do?
As an industrial clerk, you’ll work behind the scenes to ensure that business processes run smoothly. During your apprenticeship, you’ll learn how to compare quotes, process orders and handle invoices, as well as provide organisational support for projects. You’ll work in areas such as purchasing, sales, accounts and human resources, keeping track of figures, deadlines and processes.
In this role, you will take on a wide range of administrative and organisational tasks in the office. These include, amongst other things:
- communicating with suppliers and customers, obtaining and comparing quotes
- preparing, placing and tracking orders
- Processing invoices and assisting with payment runs
- preparing entries and analysing figures in finance and accounts
- maintaining staff records and helping to prepare HR procedures
- Assist with the organisation of projects, meetings and office procedures
- Enter and maintain data in ERP systems and other programmes
Industrial business administrators mainly work:
- in industrial companies, construction firms and service organisations
- in the areas of procurement, sales, accounting, management accounting and human resources
- in commercial departments and project teams
You will mainly work in an office, spending a lot of time on the computer and on the phone, and use your organisational skills and eye for figures to ensure that projects and business processes run smoothly.
- at least a secondary school leaving certificate or a vocational baccalaureate
- Quick on the uptake and flexible
- Ability to work in a team and strong communication skills
- Good numerical skills
- an analytical, meticulous and structured approach to work
