Training as a building waterproofing specialist

In this role, you’ll carry out a range of practical and hands-on tasks on the building site. These include, amongst other things:

• Waterproofing structures and parts of buildings against water and damp
• Fitting waterproofing membranes, sheets and coatings to a professional standard
• Inspecting, preparing and finishing substrates for waterproofing
• Carefully forming joints and connections
• Waterproofing roofs, terraces, basements and other surfaces
• Install waterproofing systems in accordance with specifications and plans
• Check the quality of the waterproofing work
• Apply protective layers and coverings to ensure the waterproofing remains effective in the long term

Building waterproofers mainly work:

• on building and civil engineering sites
• for specialist firms specialising in building waterproofing and refurbishment
• in the field of bridge, tunnel and civil engineering
• on new-build projects and the refurbishment of existing buildings
• as part of a team with other trades such as bricklayers, roofers or concrete workers
  

The work is mainly carried out on building sites, often outdoors and at various heights and depths.

• have at least a secondary school leaving certificate or a lower secondary school leaving certificate
• have an interest in technology and construction processes
• are physically fit and enjoy getting stuck in
• work meticulously, reliably and responsibly
• are good with your hands and enjoy practical work
• have no problem working outdoors and on different building sites
