Located in the beautiful Flembach Valley in the Upper Palatinate, Michelfeld is known for its beautiful 12th century monastery and numerous hiking trails in an impressive setting of rocks and caves . But this tranquillity will soon be replaced by high-speed construction work when the Flembach bridge in Michelfeld is demolished and rebuilt. We are already familiar with the unbridled speed of the Odenwald, but the Flembach Valley on the edge of the Veldenstein Forest is going one better: it will only take 10 weeks💪 from bridge demolition to opening to traffic .

The existing Flembach bridge, over which the B85 runs, has to be completely replaced due to considerable damage . Although the bridge superstructure of the 77-year-old structure was already replaced at the beginning of the 1970s, spalling, longitudinal cracks and moisture penetration make further economical refurbishment impossible.

Last week, representatives of our client, the Amberg-Sulzbach State Building Authority, met with the mayor of Michelfeld, Birgit Barth, as well as representatives of the neighbouring town of Auerbach and, of course, us as the main player in the execution🤝.

The project at a glance:

  • Construction site set-up and start of preparatory work and pipework for the Flembach from mid-June 2026
  • Demolition of the existing structure and construction of the new Flembach bridge with full closure of the B85 from 2 August 2026 until the opening to traffic on 10 October 2026
  • Completion of the remaining work and dismantling of the construction site facilities by the end of October 2026🚗🚛🚌

As the bridge demolition and replacement construction can only be carried out with a full closure of the B85 and large-scale diversion routes are not available, the Bavarian State Construction Administration has declared this measure a "fast-track construction method" pilot project and financed it👏.

We wishall those involved in the project every success and an accident-free construction period. We are already looking forward to many exciting milestones with high-speed power in the Flembach Valley💪.
