There was already a little spoiler at the Flembach Bridge Day last week: this time, we wouldn’t have to wait until Friday for the next update. No sooner said than done: yesterday, Wednesday 30 September 26 – 10 days BEFORE the official end of the closure – our site team announced completion💪. Is 10 weeks for demolishing and rebuilding a bridge a challenge? Yes, that’s true, but for our bridge-building team, challenges aren’t walls – they’re hurdles that they want to, and can, clear, as theyproved once again so impressively yesterday👏.
The special spirit of this unique construction site was clearly evident again yesterday. Starting with the set-up and the fantastic teamwork between the Road Maintenance Department, the State Building Authority and Eiffage Infra-Süd, through the moving speech by Tobias Bäumler, Head of the Amberg-Sulzbach State Building Authority, who literally took his hat off to the site team’s achievement, right through to the symbolic reopening of the road and the joint removal of the traffic cones. This evening demonstrated once again just how much energy strong teamwork can unleash♥️.
The speech by Birgit Barth , the first female mayor of Auerbach, was also marked by great appreciation and pride in Bavaria’s fastest bridge👍. Finally, our managing director, Alexander Ferstl, even drew a comparison with the city of Munich’s hotly contested Olympic bid. At the Olympics , records are broken; in the Upper Palatinate, (construction site) history is being made. And even the “Michelfelder Kirwaleit” got their money’s worth. Originally, our road closure was due to last right up until the start of their annual Kirwa festival, so they feared the transport of their 25-metre-high Kirwa tree might be jeopardised. The fact that we can now confirm the road is clear as of today came as a great relief to the revellers – and the keg of beer donated by Eiffage for the Kirwa made it all the more so😎.
After the official proceedings, it was time for the more relaxed part of the event, with a delicious snack from the local butcher’s, good conversation and a collective toast to Bavaria’s fastest bridge🍻.
A moment that will remain particularly memorable for the bridge romantics amongst us was the official reopening to traffic at around 9.45 pm, when our project team moved the last traffic cones aside, the traffic warden arrived, and for a brief moment all that could be seen was the orange flashing beacon under the Michelfeld starry sky💫…AND THEN the first car crossed our newly built Flembach Bridge: That was pure bridge romance😍.
This spirit will remain in our minds and hearts for a long time to come . ♥️ CONGRATULATIONS on this phenomenal achievement. Or , to put it in the words of the speakers: “Your courage and creativity have led us to this shared success🍀. THANK YOU!”
