Eiffage Infra-Nordwest is carrying out repairs to the Ahsen lock on the Wesel-Datteln Canal on behalf of the Waterways and Shipping Office for West German Canals. The lock structure dates back to 1928/1929 and is showing signs of age-related damage such as corrosion, deformation and reduced stability.

The lock has a length of 223 metres, a width of 12 metres and a drop height of 7.5 metres.
As part of the measure, among other things:

  • the existing niche bollards will be dismantled (work from the pontoon)
  • stabilising the walls using hydraulic supports
  • The bed reinforcement and levelling will be renewed

The work is scheduled to take around eight months and will ensure the long-term functional and operational safety of the lock structure.
