Project volume

Construction time

August 2018 - November 2019

Demolition and renewal of the structure "EÜ Ruhrkanal" 2184 - 3,182 - 1635.

The existing structure is a two-span structure in steel truss construction with a roadway underneath without a continuous effect and with individual support spans of 75 m (450 tonne channel span) and 34 m (150 tonne road span).
The new abutments with individual unit weights of approx. 1,000 tonnes were built outside the railway line and moved into the final position.
The new steel truss superstructure has a span of 134 m, width of approx. 8.70 m, height of approx. 14.70 m and a weight of approx. 1,600 tonnes. This was brought into its final position by means of longitudinal and transverse shunting (SPMTs + pontoons). All track-related work (demolition and new construction) was carried out during a 6-week break (core construction period) in the 2019 summer holidays.

This included the following services:

  • Large-scale paving of storage, work and BE areas
  • Construction of a concrete cover in the immediate vicinity of supply lines
  • Construction of the two new bridge abutments next to the railway track
  • Construction of the new steel superstructure in a lateral position to the south-west of the bridge
  • Dismantling/demolition of the existing steel bridge superstructure
  • Demolition of the two bridge abutments
  • Excavation of the new construction pits
  • Demolition of the centre pier between L 140 (Ruhrorter Straße) and the Ruhr Canal
  • Construction of two soil replacement structures, each consisting of 100 bored piles
  • Insertion of the new abutments within a closure period
  • Insertion of the new superstructure over the Ruhr Canal and L 140 during a track possession break
  • Track construction work
