Our complex culvert project under railway facilities in Dresden.

On behalf of SachsenEnergie, Eiffage Infra-Ost, Eiffage Infra-Spezialtiefbau and Eiffage Infra-Bau started a major sub-project as part of the campus line in Dresden.
Since June 2024, we have been working on the construction of a new utility tunnel under the railway facilities at Nossener Brücke in Dresden. The project is a technically demanding culvert - central to the relocation of media lines in the course of the new bridge construction and the Dresden campus line.

Technical project description
The so-called media culvert is being built in a closed construction method under a track field with 18 active railway lines. The aim is to lay district heating, electricity and telecommunications lines underground in order to prepare the above-ground dismantling for the subsequent replacement of the bridge.

Project significance
The media culvert is a key milestone in the major Campus Line project - an infrastructure project that aims to modernise Dresden's local transport axes, particularly with the laying of new tram lines and the barrier-free conversion of major transport hubs. For our operational units of Eiffage Infra-Ost and Eiffage Infra-Spezialtiefbau, the project represents a technically and logistically challenging reference project in the field of underground infrastructure - particularly due to the mix of inner-city environment, proximity to the railway, large-scale drilling technology and pipe jacking technology.

Core services at a glance
- Start and target shaft
Construction of two circular shaft structures with an internal diameter of approx. 14 m and a depth of approx. 20 m using bored pile construction
- Tunnelling Use of a microtunnelling machine (AVND2400) with a cutting wheel diameter of approx. 4 m. The machine will be installed in the starting excavation in July 2025.
- Construction method: hydraulic pipe jacking. During tunnelling, prefabricated reinforced concrete rings will be installed as a lining. The tunnel has a clear diameter of
3 m and a length of approx. 274 m.
- Geotechnics
Challenges: swelling planar marlstone and very small distance to overlying loose rock layers, overburden approx. 12 m to track level, deepest point approx. 18 m
- Ensuring railway operations Work is carried out during ongoing railway operations in close coordination with DB InfraGO AG. Settlement monitoring is permanently active.
Construction period and logistics
- Construction period: 06/2025-10/2026
- Construction logistics: limited working space in the inner-city context, coordination with public and private transport as well as power plant operators and users necessary when interfering with existing structures
