The Mainz transport company is extending its tram network by 19 kilometres of track. The extension will connect the university, university of applied sciences and stadium as well as the districts of Bretzenheim, Marienborn and Lerchenberg to the MVG rail network. The route of the double track runs - apart from short sections flush with the road - on special railway structures. Section 6 begins at the crossing of the route with the A 60 motorway and runs via the Marienborn district to the Lerchenberg district.
