Safety retrofitting of the 11 km long Arlberg tunnel. Construction of slab track and mass-spring systems

After more than 100 years of operation, the Arlberg tunnel underwent a complete refurbishment. The consortium consisting of Eiffage Rail and three construction partners widened the clearance gauge, refurbished the tunnel lining, installed a new slab track and adapted the safety standards. Eiffage Rail was responsible for the construction of the slab track. In addition to dismantling the entire track system, the contract also included the construction of side paths, cable routes and extinguishing water pipes. All the tunnelling work was carried out without disrupting traffic.
