The renovation of the 1.5 km long elevated road and the Ahr bridge in Sinzig was carried out in three construction phases. The two superstructures in the direction of Bonn were renovated from summer 2019 under full closure, followed by the two superstructures in the direction of Koblenz. Due to the flooding in summer 2021, the remaining work had to be carried out in an additional construction phase. The construction period was therefore extended by approx. 1 year.
For the renovation, the asphalt carriageway was milled off, the caps broken off, the waterproofing scraped off and the transition structure removed using HDW. The potential field measurement revealed chloride remediation in individual areas of the bridge superstructure and was repaired by replacing the concrete using the pilgrim step method. A new seal was then applied, the caps concreted, a new transition structure installed and a new mastic asphalt carriageway constructed. A new noise barrier was also installed in the direction of Koblenz.
The bridge soffit of the elevated road was completely reworked and then a new OS-C coating was applied. In addition, the entire bridge drainage of both bridges was renewed underneath. In addition, all the bearings of the Ahrbrücke bridge and the bearings of the elevated road were renewed axle by axle.
