Repair work on the A3 Main bridge in Dettelbach

As part of the PPP project availability model A3 motorway junction Biebelried - motorway junction Fürth/Erlangen, the approx. 360 m long bridge structure "Mainbrücke Dettelbach" between the Biebelried interchange and the Kitzingen-Schwarzach interchange was renovated in both directions. The work was carried out in two construction phases. In lot 1, the carriageway in the Nuremberg direction (substructure 2) was repaired and then, in lot 2, the carriageway in the Frankfurt a.M. direction (substructure 1).

All bridge bearings (12 per direction of travel) of the structure were replaced. In order to ensure an even layer structure of the carriageway pavement, a gradient levelling was carried out on the entire bridge deck by means of concrete replacement. The transition structures in the carriageway area were also renewed and replaced with a noise-optimised version. In order to further reduce noise pollution for the nearby villages, the asphalt surface course was made of noise-optimised stone mastic asphalt.

This included the following services:

  • Replacement of the bridge bearings (24 pieces)
  • Replacement of the transition structure (4 pieces; box-in-box system)
  • Renewal of bridge caps (approx. 800 m³ concrete)
  • Repair of hollow box girders/wing slabs
  • Renewal of bridge waterproofing (approx. 14,000 m²)
  • Installation of noise-optimised road surface (approx. 11,000 m²)
  • Gradient levelling (330,000 kg plastic-modified concrete replacement)
