Replacement construction of the existing culvert

The Rapphofsmühlenbach in Dorsten crosses under the Wesel-Datteln Canal (WDK) in culvert no. 13. The old culvert system will be replaced by a new culvert structure approximately 22 metres west of the old culvert. As part of the new design, the watercourse will be adapted to the new culvert and relocated to the west.

The culvert and the relocated Rapphofsmühlenbach are located around 200 metres south of the confluence of the Rapphofsmühlenbach and Lippe.

The confined space and the limiting boundary conditions are a particular challenge in the project.

The contract includes the following key construction services:

  • The construction of the start and finish pits with a depth of up to 16 metres
  • 3 reinforced concrete pipelines, 1 x 1600 DA and 2 x 2600 DA in tunnelling, each approx. 114m long
  • Construction of the associated culvert inlet and outlet structures with corresponding equipment, approx. 3,000m³ of in-situ concrete and approx. 610 tonnes of reinforcing steel
  • Dyke construction work
  • Over 40,000m³ of soil movement
  • Track construction work
  • Installing over 4,000m² of sheet piling as construction support, of which approx. 2,000m³ was dismantled
  • Rear anchoring in the floor slab and walls using grouted anchors

The project will run for around 36 months from February 2026 to February 2029 and will be carried out together with our sister company Eiffage Infra-Spezialtiefbau.
