The project comprises the construction of an underground reinforced concrete rainwater retention basin with a capacity of 5400 m³, supplemented by an adjacent floodable earth basin as a retention volume.
The aim of the project is to protect the city centre from flooding in the event of heavy rainfall.
In addition, a combined sewer DN 1600 mm and a reinforced concrete cut-off structure will be constructed as a connection between the rainwater retention basin and a nearby storage sewer.
Furthermore, mechanical and electrical equipment will be installed to return the accumulated mixed water to the municipal sewerage system by means of pump systems.
In a subsequent construction phase, the surface of the earth basin will be designed as a multifunctional area, which will be made available for use by the citizens of Wesseling.
