Bridge romance with 1000 tonnes of steel

Last week, you could experience a real highlight on our construction site on the B173 near Hochstadt am Main:
The first of 12 bridge shifts has been completed! This corresponds to approx. 700 tonnes of steel - pushed into place by our consortium partner and sister company SEH.
A total of 1000 tonnes of steel parts were transported from Hanover to beautiful Upper Franconia in 15 heavy transports for this first assembly section.

Before that, our work was in full swing, e.g. with the production of piers and abutments, the erection of the bridge and the construction of the new bridge. For example, with the production of the piers and abutments, construction of the construction roads and cycle cellars and much more.

After the first bridge section has been pushed in for approx. 40 metres, three more components are now being welded on at the rear so that the next shift can take place from week 41. This process will continue with the next component until the end of November, when the last shifting of the first assembly section can take place - partly during a break in the Deutsche Bahn railway line. Only the last few metres of the shunting section will be carried out during the track possession break, as the steel components will bend by around 3.5 metres during this approx. 90 metre long shunting operation and therefore protrude into the clearance gauge of the railway line.

After these three shifts, the first of four assembly sections with 220 metres of steel box girder will be completed and the conversion of the incremental launching device can begin.

At the same time, the next steel components will be delivered on the opposite side, from where they will be shunted in the same process for approx.

After the pushing processes, the gap closure is welded directly over the Main, the superstructure is aligned and stacked.

From summer 2025, our project team will be in demand again to construct the carriageway slab and the rest of the bridge.
We wish the entire project team continued success and look forward to many joint milestones!
